I have always enjoyed composting with worms and now as Urban Worm Wonders I have a chance to share and educate on a much bigger scale.
I truly believe that we all need to think about our impact on our community and world around us. I enjoy getting out into my community and sharing my experience, and learning from others about worm composting. I am always surprised at unique worm bins people have created, or recycled.
Two of my boys helped me out at the Mission "Seedy Saturday" Farmers Market. It was great!

In The Box
For several years I have been provinding a worm composting worksop for Earth Day. The kids were excited to learn about composting with worms and were truly amazed at the work the worms could do. ES Richards elementary, a school of just over 200 kids, does a great job of recycling already and in the spring of 2012 they took on a new challenge.
Two classrooms at ES Richards set up worm bins with the grade 1 and 2 classes taking care of the bins. The bins had covered windows which allowed the kids to observe the worms composting and making “soil” right before their eyes. The rest of the classrooms had containers where they recycled their compostable food scraps, which I took home and composted for them.
After about 8 weeks the kids had diverted about 75 pounds of food waste from the local landfill.
